As you should have guessed, my name is Sophie. I’m British, originally from Yorkshire in Northern England, though I moved to South-West France at a young age. I’ve always liked languages, so I chose to study Mandarin at undergrad in London, which led me to spend a year in Beijing. After graduation, I worked as an auditor in London then one day decided to throw caution to the wind and move to Mexico City to be with my wonderful significant other. I now work as a journalist/writer, which is quite frankly just wonderful.

Travelling is, in my humble opinion, one of the best ways to spend one’s money. Go waste it. The memories and things you learn are much more valuable.

Reading has always been and will remain my favourite pastime. My family has always known me as the child with her nose stuck in a book, and when I was younger I would sneakily stay up past my bedtime to keep reading.

Running is the easiest way to clear my mind. I may not be fast, may not last long, but I feel better afterwards, and so I call this a hobby. I like to pretend I can do yoga too. I grab my mat every couple of months and become devoted to perfecting my warrior poses, but tbh corpse pose is my favourite so my yoga practice is pretty much doomed.

Languages are fun. Over the years, I’ve studied Spanish, German, Latin, Hindi and even Mandarin. I’m also fluent in English and French. It’s okay though, languages need upkeep so I’ve forgotten most of what I learnt in my teenage years. Don’t be afraid if you see me on a train trying to read Harry Potter in a funny looking script. It’s just something I do.

  1. I love your philosophy on running. I’m not fast or far-running, either, but I agree that as long as we enjoy doing it, we count as Runners! (Also agree with loving cream soda… I wish it were easier to find here in the US!)

  2. Hello! I am so happy to have found your site! I think I will probably be linking to many of your posts in the future, as your site pairs nicely with what I blog about (genealogy research traveling). Great site! Excuse me while I poke around a bit more. Take care.
